Family Legacy and Leadership

Creating a successful long term legacy strategy is no easy task. It requires understanding, commitment, effort and leadership. For many, it will be a first time effort; there will thus be no precedent or model in place to guide the leadership team of the family through the complex process
and content issues involved.

‘Hope is Not a Strategy’

The information and activities set out here will enable you and your family to understand the real issues, engage right resources on the priority concerns, identify and evaluate practical options, make informed decisions, communicate well and ensure the effective implementation of your plans
leading to the best possible future for your family.

Welcome from Our Chairman

Legacy Learning for Everyone

Our approach is aimed at serving leaders of legacy families, their members, and their businesses. The course offerings and other activities available here will provide a comprehensive approach to family learning, with a particular focus on the Next Generation – with both its challenges and its opportunities.

Relevant to Both New and Established Families of Wealth

This material is intended to serve the needs of families both newly wealthy and those that have been. Successful stewards of their family wealth and legacy for generations.

These critical moments can include addressing a family wealth and legacy strategy for the first time, facing a leadership succession, generational transition, ownership change or IPO of a business and/or other major event related to the family, its members and its broader enterprise.

This unique approach offers guidance on a full range of issues, including both external and internal threats and opportunities. It also takes into account both the ‘hard’ (technical) and the ‘soft’ (people and cultural) issues essential to consider in development and implementation of a robust and resilient long-term family legacy strategy.

The materials provided here and in other supporting documentation and activities are well structured and in a single framework which allows you to set your own priorities and structure your own approach to grow your wealth and strengthen your family across many generations. An overview video of the ILS course which describes this framework can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Our Expert Team

Mark Haynes Daniell—thought leader, author and leading advisor to legacy families around the world—founded and developed the Raffles Family Wealth Learning platform with a supporting team of highly respected experts in each area of the core Integrated Legacy Strategy framework.

For those families who wish to benefit from the highest level of support to ‘accelerate their rate of progress and magnify the amplitude of their impact’, supporting advisory services can be organized with
one or more members of our team of experts to work on a dedicated basis with a specific family.

That direct support can range from an engagement focused on an initial assessment of current status and indicated priorities to a focused effort addressing a single topic to a comprehensive effort to set out a statement of family purpose and vision, along with an approach to address all of the elements of a comprehensive legacy strategy on a coordinated basis.

Choose the Best Plan, Courses and Modules for You

Here you will find your private or family account page with a history of modules completed, courses pursued, webinars and podcasts viewed and documents completed to date. These documents can be checked off against a list of a comprehensive family legacy document architecture to enable you to see how far you have come and what should be the next steps in your own successful  legacy journey.

Members can also download a pre-formatted file with the same checklist and a set of individual folders to store their own documents, once completed, on their own computers and confidential family web sites. This will ensure both a full set of documents are prepared and available for easy circulation within your family and selected advisors and employees, but without any security risk of storage anywhere but in your own system.

The Raffles Family Wealth and Legacy Community

In addition to the benefits derived from the course offerings, membership in a select community of like-minded legacy families organized through The Raffles Family Office Center in London will provide additional access to a constant flow of updates and fresh ideas on relevant matters, monthly webinars and regular podcasts featuring our panel of global experts, workshops and training sessions in major capital cities.

Overall, pursuing your own program with the Raffles Legacy Learning offering can provide you and all other members of your family with the exceptional learning experience, support for strategy development, and access to opportunities for valuable personal development that can increase your chances of beating the sad (but often true) old adage of ‘riches to rags in three generations’.

Getting Started

As a member, you can peruse the site and access all of the prepared material on demand. Individual lessons are grouped by subject and let you choose classes on specific topics.

Organized Courses offer a thorough exploration of a subject area. The core Integrated Legacy Strategy Course (ILS) highlights key concepts from each subject area and integrates them into one coherent strategic approach. An in-depth exploration into each subject area is available in the suite of Master Classes offered here.

We also offer Introductory materials on important topics for NextGen Education and Leadership Development that would be a good starting point for less experienced families, younger members of the Next Generation, extended family members, in-laws and spouses, family office staff and professional advisors, or others just starting their legacy learning journey.

If you are an experienced family member or family leader, we suggest starting with the ILS course to understand the breadth of topics. After completing ILS, review your progress in the [hyperlink: TBD self-assessment ] to gauge where to focus your future learning needs.

If you are newly wealthy, a young family member, an extended family member or a new part of the family ecosystem not familiar with family wealth and legacy planning, the Foundation Courses may be the best place to start.
