Mark Haynes Daniell is Chairman of the Raffles Family Wealth Trust Pte Ltd. He has more than thirty-five years of experience in relevant leading advisory businesses in business strategy (partner at Bain & Company),  family and business governance (including both public and private multi-billion dollar companies) investment banking (Director at Wasserstein Perella), wealth structuring (law degrees from Oxford and Harvard), wealth management (family investment committees, publicly listed investment company, private banking), philanthropy, generational transitions, leadership succession and NextGen education (leading online learning for legacy families)  and all other skills addressing the core issues of family business and legacy strategy. 

Mark has written and co-authored seven books (so far) for legacy families, including the  classic Strategy for the Wealthy Family: Seven Principles to Ensure Riches to Riches Across Generations, Family Legacy and Leadership, Family Wealth Management, Wealth Wisdom for Everyone, Strategy, The Elements of Strategy and World of Risk.

Mark holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Harvard Law School, BA and MA degrees in jurisprudence from Oxford University (University College) and a BA from Amherst College. He is a High Honors graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy and earned diplomas from the Université de Paris IV- Sorbonne and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. He was recently granted a Doctoral Degree Honoris Causa (DHC) by the National University of Georgia.

MARK HAYNES DANIELL

Professor Liechtenstein is a professor of financial management at the IESE Business School in Barcelona and Munich. He is a leading academic researcher and expert on legacy families and their businesses around the world. He is active on several family holding advisory boards and serves as a board member of the Liechtenstein Academy Foundation. He is an active entrepreneur, having founded and sold two companies, and is a former consultant at The Boston Consulting Group.

Professor Liechtenstein has authored many articles and co-authored several books, including The Empowered Investor: 7 Principles for Strategic Wealth Creation in a New Financial World and Getting Between the Balance Sheets: The Four Things Every Entrepreneur Should Know About Finance. He is an early thought leader and prominent author on sustainable investing.

Professor Liechtenstein received a doctoral degree in Business and Economic Sciences from the University of Vienna, an MBA from IESE Business School, and an MA in Business Administration from the University of Graz. He was the recipient of a Doctorate Honoris Causa for his work in financial management.

HON. PROF ROBERT BATT, MSc

Robert Batt is the founder and chairman of The TRC Group in London, which includes the well regarded Recovery Centre in Belgravia. The TRC Group works with legacy families and their members to overcome relationship challenges and personal psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression and addiction.

Robert is a member of an established, estate-owning family from England, which gives him personal insights into issues that a legacy family might experience.

Robert holds a Master’s Degree in Addiction Psychology. He studied Positive Psychology with Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar at Harvard and Philosophy with Dr. Phil Joice at Oxford University. He was awarded an Honorary Professorship in 2019.

ADJ PROF TOM McCULLOUGH MBA

Family Wealth Management

Tom McCullough is Chairman and CEO of Northwood Family Office. He has spent over 35 years in the wealth management/family office field, initially in senior executive roles with RBC Wealth Management.The combination of this background, along with his own family’s desire for a truly ‘comprehensive, customized and confidential’ service, led him on a search for a multi-family office. While multi-family offices are well-developed in the U.S. and growing rapidly as wealthy families seek out objective advice and boutique-style service, they were virtually non-existent in Canada.

Tom is a frequent speaker on issues relevant to families of wealth and is the co-author of Wealth of Wisdom: The Top 50 Questions Wealthy Families Ask (Wiley, 2018) and Family Wealth Management: 7 Imperatives for Successful Investing in the New World Order (Wiley, 2013). He is an Adjunct Professor and Executive-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management MBA program where he teaches ‘The Management of Private Wealth’, and is a faculty member in Rotman’s Family Wealth Management program for families of wealth.

Tom holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, as well as the CIM (Chartered Investment Manager) and CIWM (Certified International Wealth Manager) designations, and is a registered Portfolio Manager. He is married, has two adult children and is actively involved in a wide range of philanthropic, industry and community activities.

SARA S. HAMILTON MBA

Sara Hamilton is the founder and CEO of the Family Office Exchange (FOX). For more than 25 years, FOX has been the leading community of large legacy families and their family offices, providing information and expertise on family governance, generational transitions, wealth management, philanthropy and NextGen education.

Sara teaches on the Executive Education faculty at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in Private Wealth Management. She holds a BA from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of North Florida in the USA.

Jim Downing is an experienced investment banker, entrepreneur and director of numerous private companies. He serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of Native Land, a large private UK-based property company. He is also engaged in philanthropic activities focused on youth and sport in Inner London.

His previous roles include Deputy Head of the European Investment Banking Group at JP Morgan Chase & Co, Co-Head of European Investment Banking and Head of European Mergers and Acquisitions at Chase Manhattan, Managing Director at Wasserstein Perella and Executive Director at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Jim holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the USA.

HOGI HYUN

Family Wealth Management

Hogi Hyun founded Abacus Capital, an investment, asset management and advisory group headquartered in Singapore, in 1995. He is currently the Managing Director overseeing all investment and advisory activities.

Mr. Hyun was formerly Managing Director of Bankers Trust Company in Singapore, where he established and managed its corporate finance, risk management and investment management businesses. Mr. Hyun was also a member of the Investment Panel of The Enterprise Challenge, a venture fund backed by the Singapore Prime Minister’s Office; a member of the Board of Directors of the Singapore Civil Service College; and a member of the Board of Directors of the Singapore National Library Board.

Mr. Hyun graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 1985. He studied at the Beijing Foreign Languages Institute and Fudan University in Shanghai. He holds a Grand Diplôme from La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine in Paris and the Diplôme Universitaire d’Aptitude à la Dégustation des Vins in oenology from the University of Bordeaux.

JOHN RICHES

Wealth Structuring and Protection

Mr. Riches is a consultant in the private client and tax team at Withers Worldwide. He works with prominent international family offices on a cross-border basis and deals with structuring for UK residents and resident non-domiciled families. He has set up and advised on structures for active entrepreneurs to hold business interests and advises on issues relating to the interaction of family and business governance.

Mr. Riches has held a variety of senior posts in STEP and is currently co-chair of its public policy committee. In this role, he was responsible for liaising with national and supra national bodies on matters of tax policy affecting wealthy families, and has been consulted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in respect of its initiative for high net worth individuals.

Mr. Riches is frequently listed in many publications as a leading private client adviser to international families, and has won many awards for his work, most recently the 2020 International Advisory Experts Award for Private Wealth in the United Kingdom.

JAMIE LOWTHER-PINKERTON LVO MBE DL

Mr. Lowther-Pinkterton is a decorated army veteran and advisor to the Royal Family. He is a Trustee of the HALO Trust, the Varkey Foundation, Waterloo Uncovered, and the Royal Foundation of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Henry of Wales and an Hon Master of the Bench of Middle Temple. He is a co-founder and director of Objective Travel Safety, which provides risk assessment training for travelers and journalists.

He is also a Strategic Partner at C5 Capital, London. Mr. Lowther-Pinkerton served as Principal Private Secretary to TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge from 2005-2013. Before that, he designed security solutions for NGOs working in conflict and post-conflict regions.

Mr. Lowther-Pinkerton began his career as an officer in the British Army, serving as Equerry to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and later as a Captain and Major of the SAS. Mr. Lowther-Pinkerton was educated at Eton College and trained at the Royal Military Academy.

Jerome de Bontin

Jerome De Bontin is a Partner of the Capricorn Investment Group, one of the world’s leading asset management firms focused on sustainable and impact investment across all asset classes, including direct investments. Jerome, a former Senior Advisor to Capricorn, and joined the firm on a full time basis in 2020 with a primary responsibility for sourcing investment opportunities and working with portfolio funds on strategy, marketing, and distribution.

His prior experience includes engagements as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mekar Financial Services, an Asset Management and Investment Advisory firm and its subsidiary Sustainability Investments, L.L.C (SILLC).  Before founding Mékar in 1998, Jerome was President and CEO of Crédit Agricole Futures, a French subsidiary of one of the world’s largest banks and a pioneer in Trading Advisors and Hedge Fund investments. In addition to his professional investing career, Jerome has also been active in the sports world, serving as President of AS Monaco FC and General Manager of the New York Red Bulls in the North American MSL.

He graduated from Amherst College in 1981 with a degree in Economics.

BARBARA ANN BERNARD

Barbara Ann Bernard is the founder and CIO of Wincrest Capital Ltd, a Bahamas-based hedge fund. Barbara began her career working at a very young age with Sir John Templeton in the Bahamas, and has pursued a successful career in asset management at Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Holowesko Partners, where she focused on special situations and takeouts. Barbara Ann, a longstanding value investor, started Wincrest to run a concentrated long-short portfolio built around a foundation of in-depth research. She is also Chair of clean energy company Ultera Technologies.

In addition to her expertise in investing, Barbara Ann has a long list of further accomplishments which include extensive world travel, frequent appearances as a regular guest expert on television and in industry conferences, competitive triathlons (qualifying for the 2012 Ironman World Championships), numerous civic and charitable activities in the Bahamas, and being selected for inclusion in the exclusive lists of the Top 50 Women in Hedge Funds and ‘100 Women in Finance’. She was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2018.

An Irish citizen, Barbara Ann is a graduate of Li Po Chun United World Colleges (“UWC”) in Hong Kong, Lakefield College School in Canada, and the London School of Economics, where she Chaired the LSE Business Society.
