Foundations of Legacy: Family History, Purpose, Vision and Values
‘Lend me the stone strength of the past and I will lend you the wings of the future’
– Robinson Jeffers
A deep understanding of the family is a critical foundation stone of every aspect of legacy strategy, and an essential precondition to every course in this e-learning platform.
That understanding needs to encompass a definition off the family, its history, likely future evolution and challenges arising within both the present and future. It is as important to look forward at what will be as well as to look backward at what has already been in order to shape the future history of the family and ensure your own legacy is as thoughtful and positive as possible.
There are many benefits to understanding the family’s past and defining its future aspirations. Studies show that members of families that have an understanding of the past have the practical and obvious advantage in sharpening their ability to address effectively – and together – the important issues that face their immediate and greater families. In addition, these same family members often have greater individual confidence and perform better, thus making the ‘ancestor effect’ beneficial at both practical and psychological levels.
Once the challenges arising from past history, current culture and future evolution are clarified, this knowledge can provide a foundation to craft statements of Family Purpose the why families stay together), Vision (what the family wish to accomplish) and Values (how they will navigate and act as a group).
Objectives
This course will provide you with an understanding of the concepts, core documents and future plans that will allow you to build toward a better future for your family, defining and realizing your aspirations in the areas most important to you and your family.
In addition to defining what you will do together, and why ou will do it, this course also provides guidance on the essential values and guiding principles that will help to define who you are as well as what you do.
